Taking place at the same time as the Sapporo White Illumination Festival, The German Christmas Market celebrates the sister city relationship between Sapporo and Munich. Block 2 of Odori Park is filled with a variety of shops and Christmas themed decorations, from traditional Christmas ornaments and dolls to food such as German sausage and mulled hot wine.
There are also events held in the indoor and outdoor areas of the main venue. The outdoor stage has performances that can be enjoyed by all ages such as choir, gospel, and christmas song concerts, dance shows, and juggling. In the indoor pavilion there are many events and workshops introducing German culture and Munich, Sapporo´s sister city. Workshops on making Christmas decorations and mulled wine are held, as well as mini German language lessons.
To get to the German Christmas Market just walk south from Sapporo Station to Odori Park, then east through the park for one block. You’ll see the lights of the Sapporo Illumination Festival along the way.
