Horomi Toge is a mountain pass overlooking Sapporo City. The Horomi Toge lavender garden is a beautiful, expansive garden which features over 5,000 lavender plants and with panoramic views of Sapporo.
It’s a very popular date spot at both day and night. The Horomi Toge lavender garden was started with 120 plants in 1987. Today the garden has grown to over 5,000 lavender plants, and there is now an on-site gift shop and (paid) parking area. Because of its panoramic views of Sapporo city it’s a very popular tourist attraction in addition to date spot for young couples who park here to see the night view of the city. The lavender gardens are open from 10:00-17:00. The night view parking spot is open from 18:00-01:30. Both are 500 yen for parking. The lavender gardens are best viewed from mid-July through August. The night view parking spot is open from April through the end of November. In winter the roads are mostly closed due to heavy snowfall.
There is no public transportation access, so the only way to get here is by car. It’s about a 30 minute drive west of downtown Sapporo via local roads from the Maruyama Park area. It can be a bit hard to find, so is best suited to the adventurous and those with good car navigation systems.
